Assistant Fire Chief - City of Yuba City, California
Yuba City is a diverse, flourishing community located in Sutter County 40 miles north of Sacramento. The Yuba City Fire Department, with its 54 personnel, has been serving the citizens of Yuba City and adjacent unincorporated areas of Sutter County with excellent service since its’ founding in 1909. This ISO Class 2 Fire Department staffs five stations throughout the city and in 2017 responded to over 10,000 calls. In addition to providing fire suppression, prevention and education services, the department also has specialized teams that include an Advanced Technical Rescue Team, Hazardous Materials Team, and a Tactical Emergency Medical Services Team, as well as a Fire Investigation Team and a Public Education Team. This Assistant Fire Chief position was created in anticipation of the future retirement of the current Fire Chief, and the City is seeking a strong leader to act as second in command and oversee the operational aspects of the Department. The ideal candidate will have a strong administrative, financial, and operational background and will be able to demonstrate exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills. A Bachelor’s degree; California State Chief Officer and State Fire Officer Certifications or equivalent; and at least 10 years full-time experience with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or command position at a level equivalent to the rank of Battalion Chief; required. Salary range from $114,546 to $139,235 with excellent benefits.
