City Manager - City of Hermosa Beach, California

The City of Hermosa Beach, a vibrant and sunny coastal community in the heart of Los Angeles County’s South Bay, is seeking its next City Manager. With just 1.43 square miles and nearly 20,000 residents, Hermosa Beach embodies the Southern California lifestyle, offering small-town charm, a lively downtown, and two miles of sandy shoreline that draws more than half a million visitors during peak months. Residents enjoy a strong sense of community and a wealth of recreational opportunities, as well as numerous annual events.

Hermosa Beach operates under the Council-Manager form of government with a five-member City Council providing policy leadership. The City Manager is responsible for implementing Council direction and overseeing a talented team across seven departments with a FY 2025-26 adopted budget of $53.6 million and 174.14 FTE positions. The City’s mission emphasizes collaboration, fiscal responsibility, sustainability, and delivering first-class municipal services.

This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned leader who is approachable, transparent, and values driven. The ideal candidate will bring proven municipal management experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build trust with Council, staff, and the community. They will be a hands-on leader comfortable in a lean organization, able to balance big-picture vision with attention to detail, and skilled in navigating intergovernmental relationships, coastal community challenges, housing mandates, and financial sustainability.

The City offers a competitive salary range of $240,000 - $289,817 DOQE, plus an excellent benefits package including CalPERS retirement, deferred compensation, generous leave, wellness and training benefits, and a 4/10 work schedule.
